Overview

Ketan Mukhija is senior partner with Burgeon Law – a corporate attorney with nearly two decades of diversified experience, ranging from leading numerous large ticket-sized M&A transactions, extensive advise on complex matters and commercial arrangements, among others. 

 

Prior to this, Ketan led the general corporate teams at Dentons Link Legal and P&A Law Offices. He was previously associated with Kanoria Foundation as the Group Sr. Vice President for legal strategy and corporate planning. He was responsible for handling the in-house legal functions with the said leading group of over 300 companies in the infrastructure space, having numerous associate entities spanning a widespread business portfolio and sectoral verticals including energy, roads, oil and gas, SEZs, capital markets, insurance, together with a range of related financial service.

 

Ketan was also associated with Herbert Smith LLP (UK) as a solicitor in 2008, wherein he was part of the core team that advised Bradford & Bingley plc (UK’s biggest buy-to-let lender) on raising of funds and fresh capital, as also the one that structured and facilitated Tata Motors’ acquisition of Land Rover and Jaguar from Ford Motors, a deal valued at approximately US$ 2.3 bn.

 

Ketan’s primary areas of focus comprise corporate restructurings, investment transactions, private equity, banking and finance, energy and infrastructure, real estate and construction, telecommunications as also capital markets, both domestic and international. He has acted as transaction lead and advised several multinational corporations on their entry strategies into India and has diverse experience in providing corporate advice and representation. He has provided advice and assistance in relation to bidding for government contracts, including advice in relation to compliance with anti-corruption and ethical standards prescribed by the specific government authorities. He has been involved in the negotiation and drafting of various transaction documents and other agreements.

 

Some of the representative clients include Citi Group, Cisco Systems, Jindal Steel, DLF Limited, HCL Limited, Jaiprakash Power Ventures Limited, Religare Enterprises Limited, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corp., Diageo, etc. His banking and finance transactional experience includes the representation of ICICI Bank Limited, Yes Bank Limited, Altico Capital India Private Limited, Standard Chartered Bank, Hero Solar, Clix Capital, HSBC, and several other domestic/ foreign banks & financial institutions.

 

Ketan completed his B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) from NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad and is also a qualified company secretary having considerable familiarity with laws of several jurisdictions including UK, continental Europe, Africa and South-East Asia, together with their financial and accounting systems.

 

Ketan is an executive member of ASSOCHAM National Council on Law and Policy, ASSOCHAM National Council on Competition Law; life-time member of Association of Independent Directors of India. He is an Expert Panel Member of Mediation and Conciliation Network and a Registered Insolvency Professional with Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India.

 

Ketan has been endowed with various awards and accolades, including but not limited to Rising Star in Legal Fraternity by Legal Era, Chairman’s Award for Outstanding Performance by Kanoria Foundation, recognition as an ‘industry leader’ by Chambers & Partners, and several others by IDEX and Lex Witness at illustrious legal conferences.

 

In addition to India, Ketan is qualified to practice in the United Kingdom, and has been admitted into the Roll of Solicitors of UK & Wales.
